EARTH IS ALL THINGS

EARTH

The earth is all things to me. It is me, as it is all of us. We are made of the same stuff as earth. In other words, the same elements that make up the earth, make up the human body as well. So how can people say we are not part of the earth? I don’t understand. Is your child no longer a part of you just because he/she is no longer in the womb? No, of course not.

For the past 25 years I have walked a spiritual path and become many different things in my life as I took up new skills and career rolls; Reiki Practitioner, Sekhem Practitioner, Transformational Counselor, Earth Healer, and walking a Medicine Wheel. Retired now, I still incorporate these modalities and tools in my daily life as they are needed now more than ever.

I talk to the earth and plants and rocks and animals as I would to any person. To some people it sounds crazy and to others it’s normal. Do you know how to talk to the earth too? It really is simple to put your heart out to begin. You just first need to quiet your mind and listen with your senses and heart.

TINY STEPS

Simple words with such profound meaning. Yet for some the hardest place to start is exactly there. I understand the hesitation and doubts all too well. I still get caught there when I let life catch me off guard and then I have to pull myself back to center. But it is possible to begin in tiny steps, not giant leaps, to begin to know the earth.

See if you can quiet your mind enough to focus just on the moment your in right when you are doing these next tiny steps. If you get distracted or your mind starts a grocery list of to-dos just give yourself a break and tell your mind and ego that it’s OK. You’ve got this under control and thank it for reminding you, but you will handle these to-dos in a few minutes.

We were raised with needing to ask permission to do just about everything weren’t we? So it makes sense that we need to also give ourselves permission to let our mind and ego have permission for a short time off while you explore your intuition and your senses.

PLACE TO START

Being outside is the best place to begin because you can see, touch, smell and hear nature and the earth yourself. If possible go to a park or away from noisy busy places like traffic or shopping centers, etc. Maybe your own yard is quiet at times. Walk around it and really notice what you have growing around you. Notice the ground beneath your feet. How does it feel? What kind of shoes do you have on? Can you feel the unevenness of the ground? If not, try leaning or kneeling down on the ground and feel the earth through your hands and knees. Is it plain earth or have rocks or grass? Is it bumpy or smooth?

Not ready for that. No problem. Touch a leaf, a stem, a branch of a tree or bush. Can you feel the texture of it in your hands? Look at it’s color. Is every leaf or stick, etc., the same color or are there different shades in the similar items around you? Do those different shades have a different texture?

TIME & PATIENCE

Give yourself about 1 to 5 minutes to begin being with the earth and really make a note of how you feel after the experience. Are you feeling quieter or calmer inside yourself? Did it make you anxious? If so, why do you think that was so? Maybe you need a bigger talk with your ego and mind so it understands it’s OK for you to be quiet and still. We are always busy you know and that is what our mind and ego expect of us all the time if we let them.

In addition, take a moment to think about how complex a structure that piece of earth or plant and the human body are. Each has fluids that run through them to bring them life, blood for the body and sap and water nutrients for the plants. Both exist with cellular structures so they can grow and change. Many of the same basic structural elements are contained in both. You are both a miracle of life, you are connected.

MOVING FORWARD FROM HERE

Congratulations you’ve just made your first introduction to the real world of earth. Good job! Keep up the good work.

I highly recommend taking a few minutes as soon as you can to jot some notes down about how the leaf or grass, etc, felt and how the experience made you feel. Get a notebook and continue writing with each earth encounter you have. Give yourself permission to do these earth explorations visits at least one to two times a week to begin with. You’re on a new adventure to get to know the earth you live on up close and personal.

I’ll be adding more ideas and tips on how to get to know the earth and be friends with her in the next few posts. Earth is called a she and she has a heart. She is also known as Gaia and by many many other names. You can browse the internet for lots of information about the different cultural beliefs about her and I encourage you to do so.

Good journey to you!
