In the depth of silence you find answers. Peaceful, terrifying, saddening, fearful, magnificent, restful, exhilarating, exasperating, painful, or delightful, but always a learning experience. Sometimes the lesson is welcome and other times not so much.

It can be a journey of frustration when your brain won’t stop thinking, the body is too restless or uncomfortable or there is too much noise going on outside of you or around you. That is when it takes discipline and practice to get past those roadblocks and move into the silence inside you.

There are many types of silence for many different reasons in our lives. It’s good to get to know them because they can refresh you during a busy day, calm you in upsetting times and even teach more about yourself to bring you more peace and joy in your life. To hide in the depth of silence is an astounding experience.

THE SILENCE OF INSIDE YOU

Silence is the moments between the noises of every moment in our lives. It’s just a matter of recognizing it to begin knowing it. It’s a pattern in your brain that isn’t telling you anything at all, no words, no sounds, no nothing.

You’re brain is not talking to you telling you how right or wrong you are, how good or bad this or that is, what you have to do next or tomorrow or next week. It’s silent. It is something that is right now, this moment, present moment, and in that right now moment you ignore your brain and your subconscious as if you just shut your computer off. You can’t hear it, you can’t see it’s screen telling you a zillion things that keep you busy all day, it’s no distraction of your attention, it’s just you being in the quiet in silence.

RESTORING YOU

It’s a place of great wealth of wisdom and resources for your life once you have learned how to still and silence your ego and brain to go beyond the noise we make and hear in our lives. The depth of that kind of silence can even bring healing to your mind and body to improve your health. It benefits your mental, physical, emotional and spiritual life at ever deeper levels the longer you practice silence.

It starts in bursts of short moments, but with your deliberate intent and practice to turn your mind off you can expand the time significantly.

MEDITATION IS A FORM OF SILENCE INSIDE YOU

Many people try meditation and think they fail because their mind doesn’t stop thinking. They are not failing, they just need to give themselves more patience to learn how to silence inside themselves. Don’t judge yourself according to others progress.

Meditation is not a race. It is a personal journey between you and your soul. Nothing to do with anyone else. Their journey is their journey and yours is yours. Nothing to do with competition. You just have to give it your patience to take that journey to get it’s benefits for you.

STARTING POINT

Silence is free. So you can start any place and any time you want to. You can begin by simply paying attention inside you as to just how noisy your brain really is. Take a few days and pay attention to when no thoughts occur to you. Does that ever happen? Do you see how noisy your brain really is?

Make it happen. Deliberately stop thinking, even for a second or two.. It’s hard because your brain is used to being busy. But give it a try over and over again and see if you can get even a tiny fragment of a second of no thoughts. That is a good accomplishment right there. Just keep trying practicing those silent gaps in order to lengthen the time of silence.

WHAT’S NEXT

The more you practice it the easier it becomes. After practicing silence notice how those silent moments make you feel inside yourself. Not how you think they feel, but literally feeling the emotions and sensations inside you each time. Do you feel calmer, quieter, happier, what is your mood?

This is the beginning of learning and experiencing silence. There are many many books and online resources on Meditation and the benefits of silence. I encourage you to give these ideas a chance to benefit your life. Go sit under a tree and just listen to the wind and noises around without judgment or thoughts. Just listen in silence.
