TRUST – To know with heart and soul that all is right.
Artwork by Dawn M Cheney
I just finished this Trust Healing Card above and I’m absolutely delighted with how light hearted and peaceful a feeling it’s energy portrays for such a heavy weighted issue.

Definition of trust: The firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.
I’ll be honest, trust is has not been one of my favorite subjects for many years now. I grew up with a trust in life and people that others called naïve and optimistic. Then the world crashed in on me in 2001 and I lost most of that naivete and parts of that optimism in the leftover debris. Mind you it didn’t happen overnight. It took hold from one big crash that led to years of reinforced proof of testing my trust over and over again until there was none left except in God and me.
I’ll also tell you up front that is has taken me years to be able to even draw this Trust Healing Card at all. It’s a beginning with a long way to go.
A little trust has come back in small pieces thanks to a few special people I’ve met over the last 10 years. But it is fragile and doesn’t extend very far or to very many. There are people and organizations I no longer trust at all, as well as ideas and things. But mine is a very strong mistrust indeed and questions everything.
WHY TRUST MATTERS
Trust is a precious thing. To trust means that we believe that someone or something will always be dependable and reliable, no matter what situation arises. In psychology they believe that we cannot love unless we trust. Trust ourselves, trust the other person or organization, trust the circumstances and everything involved. There must be trust in there somewhere for us to love and believe.
The issue of trust is the basis of everything we have and do in our lives. Yet I hear most people toss the word around on everything from TV programs they watch to some comment made by a perfect stranger. Most people don’t think twice when the word trust spills out of their mouth.
I don’t believe that society today truly understands the full impact of what it means to trust. To trust means you would trust your life or whole being to that someone or thing without question because of your past experience and former knowledge of them.
Marianna Pogosyan, Ph.D. wrote in her article Who Do You Trust?, Psychology Today June 5, 2017:
-
Trust and reciprocity are considered to be the “basis of all human systems of morality.”
-
Trust in strangers increases from childhood to early adulthood, and then remains more or less stable in adulthood.

Researchers in social psychology differentiate between two kinds of trust – affective and cognitive. Cognitive trust is based on our knowledge and evidence about those we choose to trust. Affective trust, on the other hand, is born out of our emotional ties with others, including the security and the confidence we place in others based on the feelings generated by our interactions. Sometimes, the differences of cognitive and affective trust have been described as trusting with your head (cognitive) and trusting with your heart (affective).
Things like I trust the mail to be delivered or I trust my parents and siblings come as no surprise. I trust it’s going to rain tomorrow is more of a silly place to put your trust once you understand the real importance and meaning of the word. How many times do we frivolously throw the word trust around without even realizing it? A lot!

What an interesting piece and an excellent prompt to consider how trust is a sacred thing which needs greater respect than we generally give it, just as you say! Wow, does the world need more genuine, intensive inquiry into things. Rather than the tendency to believe that whatever comes across Facebook is a truth. And news shouldn’t be dismissed out-of-hand as fake; it should be investigated. I LOVE the Trust Healing Card you created! It’s beautiful.
Thank you Cricket for such insight and wisdom on Trust. I agree we no longer understand what the word truly means and the depth of it’s nature. I too feel it needs to be taken more seriously to bring more depth to man in general.
